How to teach a workshop loosely based on my work? Play with your food!

I taught a day of art workshops at Greenbelt Middle School last Thursday, in conjunction with the piece I just installed at the Greenbelt Community Center. Here's what the students created:

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE - 8th grade

THE UGLY DUCKLING - 6th grade

THE TORTOISE AND THE HARE - 7th grade

THE LION AND THE MOUSE - 7th grade

I showed each class these images, and a bunch of interesting vegetables - rhubarb, turnips, beets, curly and red cabbage, dill, brussel sprouts, mushrooms and more. I then read the class a story, and helped them split the narrative into scenes. The students worked in groups, and each group created one of the scenes.

I then took photos of each scene, and added text using photoshop. As you can see, the entire text of each story is not represented - just the part relevant to the scenes that were created.

Created Thursday, May 13, 2010 - by Greenbelt Middle School art classes, in a workshop based on the Play With Your Food illustrators.
