Sphere # 2

Here's the second sphere, next to the first one, for size comparison. I have to find something better to photograph them against - the wood floor offers almost no contrast, and the kitchen linoleum is super-distracting. I was going to put it on the kitchen table (which is also brown, but would at least be against a white wall), but then my camera battery died. I'll try more later. I'm still struggling to convey 3-D physicality accurately in photos, which is frustrating the heck out of me.

I fixed the second one with a glossier medium - it's nifty, but I'm not sure how I feel about the effect. I like them just matte, but the matte medium started getting cloudy, and I'm not sure why, so I tried this instead. This glossier medium also makes the filters seem wet, and more transparent, which could be good if I decided to light these, but I'm still undecided - there's a fine line between using light in sculpture and turning everything into a lamp. Not that these would give off much light, but still, I've got to think about it more.

Just as I was admiring the wood and the filters' colors against your black background on the blog!
But I see the problem, especially when you show the kitchen photo.
The un-shiny filters are more immediate - like what I see in my compost bin - the fixed ones have become something else. I don't see one as better than the other, just different.
